Henry II 1154-89, Short Cross Penny, Gocelm/Winchester Cl 1a4, Ex Mass & Sazama

  

A nice example of this rare Class 1a4 short cross penny struck at Winchester with Gocelm as moneyer. Lightly worn but with weak centres.

Ex Isabella Collection and previously ex Jim Sazama Collection, DNW 5/12/2012, lot 77, ex Professor J Mass Collection, DNW 16/3/2005, lot 460, and ex Wainfleet (Lincolnshire) Hoard 1990. O: HENRICVS REX, crowned facing head & sceptre held at side.

R: GOCELM ON WIN, voided short-cross with quatrefoils in angles. I would grade this coin Nearly Very Fine (Sheldon EF45) I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.
