19th CENT' VICTORIAN OFFICERS MESS DRESS BOOTS SPURS & WOODEN SHOE TREES + PLUME

  
For offer, a pair of 19th Century, Victorian Officer's leather mess or dress boots, complete with a pair of spurs and wooden shoe trees, together with a Horsehair plume. A pair of black leather military boots. I have been unable to discern, any makers marks or details within the boots, but they would have been custom made for the owner.

The leather uppers are still very supple, and would benefit from a feed and polish, with the leather soles and heels being intact and firmly affixed, the steel tacks are visible but worn to the heels, the internal canvas/webbing pull tabs are likewise firmly affixed too. I would say that these are most likely a size 8, being as the wooden shoe trees are a size 8, and are an extremely good fit, and appear to be original to the boots. Overall heel to toe length: 12 1/4 (31cm). Widest point of sole: 3 7/8 (9.8cm). Top of boot to bottom of heel (rear line): 14 1/4 (36.2cm).

Calf circumference: 13 3/4 (35cm). A pair of spurs complete with leather securing straps.

In very good condition, with some wear and surface rust commensurate with their age, the leather is supple, with colour fade, one strap has a small piece of the tip missing, no makers mark. A pair of dual size, hinged wooden shoe trees, which are an extremely good fit within the boots, and are most probably original to them, ink stamped underneath with the numerals "4" and "8", for size 4 and 8. A Victorian period Cavalry Helmet, Blue dyed Horsehair plume. The horsehair is plaited around a threaded end steel rod, with a gilt brass'Rose' and cup. The condition is in issued and used state, with some colour fade to the dye.
