PCGS PR62 1846 GREAT BRITAIN Queen Victoria Pattern Copper Cent, VERY RARE! A VERY RARE Pattern, with flashy luster and hints of mint red remaining in the peripheries. Produced by silversmiths Marrian & Gausby of Birmingham, this type signified the first attempt in Great Britain to introduce a decimal currency system. In total, 5 denominations were produced, which include: 10, 5, 2 and 1 Cent pieces as well as a 1 Centum denomination. While a simple enough concept, it would not take hold in any form until 1971, exactly 125 years later, when Britain finally "went decimal".
